{"id":1248,"date":"2025-03-27T16:29:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-27T15:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/secontrade.com\/blog\/?p=1248"},"modified":"2026-01-21T17:08:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T16:08:17","slug":"kick-off-for-the-passat-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secontrade.com\/blog\/en\/2025\/03\/27\/kick-off-for-the-passat-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kick-off for the &#8222;PASSAT&#8220; project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>As part of the Austrian consortium, SECONTRADE has been working on the PASSAT flagship project to implement the Digital Product Passport (DPP) since February 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PASSAT <a href=\"https:\/\/digitaler-produkt-pass.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digital Product Passport Austria and Beyond<\/a> project unites 21 partners from industry, research and political actors. It aims to develop practice-oriented solutions for the Digital Product Passport as well as to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their transition to sustainable processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transparency across the entire product life cycle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Digital Product Passport is a key instrument of the new Ecodesign Regulation. It ensures seamless digital recording of product data for the entire life cycle \u2013 all the way from production to use and recycling. The focus is on the durability of the products and the reuse of existing resources. By providing reliable product data along the entire life cycle, the DPP enables the reduction of waste, extended product utilisation and the development of new business models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pilot projects in key industries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to test the introduction of the DPP, specific pilot projects are being implemented by PASSAT in the textile, electronic and skiing industries. As part of this, digital product labelling, data space approaches and recycling processes are being evaluated. At the same time, the consortium is developing regulatory recommendations and educational materials to optimally prepare companies for future requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An active partnership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of PASSAT, SECONTRADE is working on the development of requirements for the Digital Product Passport as well as on data systems and possible applications, especially in the end-of-life sector. These can provide new opportunities for the recycling process and subsequently for the successful reuse of high-quality secondary raw materials. \u2018PASSAT is an exciting project that offers great potential for a circular economy in practice. We are delighted to be part of such a diverse consortium and to contribute our expertise\u2019 emphasises Brigitte Reich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About PASSAT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bilateral flagship project was launched in February 2025 with 21 partners from industry, research and networks. Led by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, the initiative is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI) and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).
